Horgan’s Square, North Docks LAP, Cork

The new urban park forms the principal space within the centre of the North Docks LAP along the north bank of the River Lee. The design and layout of the scheme was derived from an appreciation of the site characteristics and historical references and incorporates subtle treatment of the spaces to generate an abstract rhythm along the quays.

Careful arrangements of bespoke urban elements combine with the large lawn area and tree planting to create a durable environment evoking a dynamic approach to city life and work. The urban aspect of the park is emphasized further through the use of contrasting paving, sculptural elements and feature lighting, combining to create a vibrant and distinctive waterfront park.
